University Debate Nationals: 5th NOV - 11th NOV

The 6th edition of the University Debate Nationals brought together 120 participants from 28 universities (3 from Kenya) and tertiary institutions and was hosted by Ndejje University main campus from 5-11 November 2018 under the theme, "The Refugee Question". Under this theme students discussed, interrogated and analyzed the refugee topic in relation to humanitarian, security and economic impacts to host communities in Uganda and the current state of refugees in the country.

THE NATIONAL YOUTH SYMPOSIUM 2018
The National Youth Symposium 2018 is a conference that aims to include the youth in the preparation and execution of the regional summit (East Africa Youth Leadership Summit, YouLead). The event will be hosted on Wednesday 24th October 2018 at Hotel Africana, Kampala under the theme, “Youth Political & Economic Inclusion: Scenarios for Sustainable Regional Integration”

Uganda Martyrs University this week voted in their new Union President, His Excellency Raymond Jjagwe in an election that saw the entire University get involved. Elections of this caliber in the Universities here in Uganda involve students writing down their manifestos, convince the students in open air campaigns and thereafter prove their convincing ability in a Presidential Debate where they take on the floor to defend their manifestos with all the other candidates.

THE TANZANIA DEBATE TOUR 2018

The Tanzania debate tour was a climax part of the package which was awarded to the winning team of Kyambogo University to have a debate tour around Tanzania which was considered a case study in the region on the issues of National Unity and in that case Tanzania was chosen as the case study in the region. This year the tour happened from the 28th February - 4th March 2018.

THE SDGS INTER-SCHOOL DEBATE COMPETITION

On the 4th March,2018, the SDGs Inter-school debate competition took place at Baptist High School with all the 10 schools in the Youth SDGs awareness through Debate program. This was organized to test the knowledge and research the students have on the Sustainable Development Goals. The rainy Sunday morning did not deter the Debaters from being at the venue together with their patrons.

 

MENTORING THE NEXT GENERATION DEBATERS

Prior to the Inter-School Competition, Open Space Centre labored to establish the Debate Clubs in the different school and thereafter assign a mentor to each school for purposes of continuous practice and thereby betterment.

The schools selected for the program were ten and included the following;

Baptist High School

Luyanzi College School

Africana High School

Kinaawa High School

Mbogo Progressive High School

Kisubi Mapeera Secondary School

St. Joseph Girls, Nsambya

St. James Secondary School
